The Royal Health Awareness Society and UNFPA Award Shababna volunteers

The Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS) and UNFPA, the United Nations Population held an awarding ceremony to award the volunteers of its project Shababna one of several projects conducted by RHAS which aims to establish a national network of Jordanian youth volunteers that play a significant role in educating their peers and encouraging healthy lifestyles and behaviors.  


The awarding ceremony was attended by representatives from RHAS, UNFPA, the United Nations Population, the staff of the Faculty of Nursing at the Jordan University of Science and Technology, and RHAS volunteers.


The event started with a video to highlight the experience of the volunteers in the project, followed by a health sketch which was presented by a group of volunteers called” Masrahjeyh” tackled some of the health topics such as smoking and reproductive health. 


The Royal Health Awareness society (RHAS), and UNFPA, the United Nations Population collaborated on the “SHABABNA Project” through conducting two workshops that lasted for five weeks, where more than 60 students from the Jordan University of Science and Technology participated in it to implement health initiatives in the university that tackles different health topics such as diabetes, smoking, cancer, obesity, mental health, reproductive health, family planning, and many more.


Shababna is a youth led project launched within the final quarter of 2011. The project aims to establish a national network of Jordanian youth volunteers that play a significant role in educating their peers and encouraging healthy lifestyles and behaviors. Youth volunteers receive training on various national health priority topics, leadership skills, communication skills and advocacy. By significantly building their capacity, youth volunteers contribute to the implementation of various health awareness based projects and initiatives throughout the Kingdom. 


RHAS was established in 2005 under the direction of Her Majesty Queen Rania AlAbdullah to promote health and empower Jordanians to adopt healthy lifestyles and behaviors. RHAS community-based projects are implemented in accordance with the needs of the communities and revolve around the national health priorities.
